Two parallel uniformly charged infinite plane sheets, 1 and 2, have charge densities +σ and 2σ respectively. Give the magnitude and direction of the net electric field at a point.
(i) In between the two sheets and
(ii) Outside near the sheet 1.

(i) Let E1 and E2 be the electric field intensity at the point P1, between the plates. So, |EP1|=|E1|+|E2|
=σϵ0+2σϵ0
=3σϵ0 (directed towards sheet 2)
EP1=3σϵ0(^j)=3σϵ0^j
(ii) Outside near the sheet 1,|EP2|=E2E1
=2σ2ϵ0σ2ϵ0=σ2ϵ0 (directed towards sheet 2)
EP2=σ2ϵ0(^j)=σϵ0^j.
