From the figure, we can say that,

AE = BC = 8 m ...(1)
BD = BC + CD
14=8+CDCD=6 m

Also, AB = EC = 8 m.

Now applying Pythagoras theorem on CDE, we get,
ED2=EC2+DC2ED2=82+62ED2=64+36 =100ED=10 m

Hence, the distance between their top = ED = 10 m.
