Two plane mirrors A and B are parallel to each other and spaced 20 cm apart. An object is kept between them at 15 cm from A. Following are the distances of the image formed by mirror A(from it). Which of the following is not possible?

The correct option is C 45 cm

For plane mirror, we know that,

object distance = image distance

Using above concept, we can get

First image formed in mirror A is OA at 15 cm from mirror A

Image formed in mirror B at a distance OB will act like a virtual object and its image is formed in mirror A at (5 cm+20 cm)= 25 cm

Image OA will act like a virtual object for mirror B. Its image in mirror B will form at = 35 cm

Now the image of OA in mirror B will act like the virtual object for mirror A.

Therefore, its image in mirror A will be formed at (35 cm+20 cm)=55 cm

Alternative:


The first three images will be at a distance 15 cm, 25 cm and 55 cm from mirror A.

Hence option (c) is correct choice.
