Question

Two point charges 4 μC and 6 μC are seperated by a distance of 10 cm in air. At what point between the charges on the line joining the charges is the potential zero.

Open in App
Solution

Let x be the distance from charge 4μC ,

If separation between both charges is 10cm

Net potential at point x from charge 4μC is zero.

Vnet=14πεo4×106x+14πεo6×106(10x)

0=2x+310x

2(10x)3x=0

x=4cm

Hence, Potential at point 4cm from charge 4μC is zero.
