The correct option is A d1+2
Q should be negative and it should be placed somewhere between q and 2q. Let Q is placed at a distance x from q and (dx) from 2q.
For net force on q to be zero, kqQx2=kq(2q)d2...(1)
For net force on 2q to be zero, k2qQ(dx)2=kq(2q)d2...(2)
From (1) and (2), 1x2=2(dx)2
or 2x2=d22dx+x2
or x2+2xdd2=0
or x=2d±4d2+4d22=d+d2 (as Q in between q and 2q so negative value of x is invalid)
or x=d(21)(2+1)(2+1)=d(2+1)
