Solution

The correct option is B 20 km/h
Recall the following formula:
Average Speed = Total distance travelledTotal time taken

We need to find the average speed for the complete journey.
  • Let us calculate the total distance travelled during the whole journey.
    Distance from A to B = 60 km
    Distance from B to A = 60 km
    Total distance travelled
    = 60 km + 60 km = 120 km
  • Let us calculate the total time taken to complete the whole journey.
    Time taken from A to B = 3 h
    Time taken while halting = 1 h
    Time taken from B to A = 2 h
    Total time taken
    = (3 + 1 + 2) h = 6 h
  • Thus, average speed of the journey = 120 km6 h = 20 km/h
