Question

Two polaroids are present in the path of unpolarized beam of intensity I0 such that no light is emitted from the second polaroid. Solution

The correct option is A (I08)sin22θ

When unpolarized light of intensity (I0), passes through the polarizer, the intensity of transmitted light becomes I/2, irrespective of the orientation of the polarizer
So, I1=I02

According to Malus' law
I2=I1cos2θ=I2cos2θI3=I2cos2(90θ)=I2cos2θsin2θ
=I8(2sinθcosθ)2=I8(sin2θ)2

Hence, (A) is the correct answer.
