From the given figure, the distance between the tips of the poles forms a right angled triangle with 5 m and 12m as its hypotenuse.
Pythagoras theorem for right triangle,
Hyp2=(Side1)2+(Side2)2
So, required distance =52+122=25+144=169=13m
