Question

Two reactions are given to Karthik and Arun, one each, to find the molecularity of the reaction. Consider both reactions to be elementary.
Reaction (A) is NH4NO2N2+2H2O
Reaction (B) is 2HIH2+I2
Karthik got the answer as 2 and Arun got the answer as 1, which are correct. Can you tell which reactions were given to Karthik and Arun?

Solution

The correct option is B Arun – Reaction A, Karthik Reaction B
Reaction A is NH4NO22H2O
Here only one molecule NH4NO2 is decomposing into products.Since no other reactants are participating, the molecularity is 1.

For Reaction B,
2HIH2+I2

2HI molecules collide with each other to form products. As it is given that is an elementary reaction, the molecularity is 2.

So Karthik got Reaction B and Arun got Reaction A.
