Question

Two resistors A and B resistance 4 Ω and 6Ω respectively are connected in parallel. The combination is connected across a 6 volt battery of negligible resistance. Calculate : (i) the power supplied by the battery, and (ii) the power dissipated in each resistor.

Open in App
Solution

V = 6 , R1 = 4 , R2 = 6
Total Resistance
1R = 14 + 16
1R = 312+ 212
1R = 512
R = 125 = 2.4 ohms

(i) Power supplied by battery
P = V2R
P = 6× 62.4 = 15 Watt

(ii)
Power dissipated in R1
P = V2R
P = 6× 64 = 9 Watt
[ P.d is same across every resistor in Parallel combination ]

Power disspitated in R2

P = V2R

P = 6× 66t = 6 Watt
