Question

Two resistors of resistance 4 Ω and 6 Ω are connected in parallel to a cell to draw current 0.5 A from the cell.
(a) Draw a labelled diagram of the arrangement.
(b) Calculate the current in each resistor.

Solution

(a)

(b) Current is divided in the inverse ratio of the resistance.

Current through 4 Ω resistor = IR1+R2×R2=0.54+6×6=0.3 A

Current through 6 Ω resistor = IR1+R2×R1=0.54+6×4=0.2 A
