Solution

The correct option is D l1α1+l2α2l1+l2
The coefficient of linear expansion of first rod of length l1 is:
α1=Δl1l1×Δt
Δl1=α1l1Δt ............eq1
The coefficient of linear expansion of second rod of length l2 is:
α2=Δl2l2×Δt
Δl2=α2l2Δt ............eq2

Now, if a single rod of linear expansion α is taken instead of two rods,
α=Δl1+Δl2(l1+l2)×Δt ........eq3
Putting the value of Δl1 and Δl2 in eq3, we get
α=α1l1Δt+α2l2Δt(l1+l2)Δt
α=l1α1+l2α2l1+l2
