Question

Two similiar cones have volumes 12π cu. units and 96 π cu. units. If the curved surface area of the smaller cone is 15 π sq. units, what is the curved surface area of the larger one

Solution

Let the radius of cone one is r and cone two is R and height of cone one is h and cone two is H

We know that volume of cone =13πr2h

Taking ratios of volume of two cones

12π96π=πr3πR3

18=r3R3

14=r2R2

CAS1CAS2=πrlπRL=r2R2 (the cone are similar )

15πCAS2=14

CAS2=4×15π=60π sq unit
