Two small ball m1 and m2 moving in opposite direction with speed 2 m/s collides. If the collision is perfectly inelastic, mass of m1 is 3 kg and mass of m2 is 5 kg. Calculate the speed of the objects after the collision.

The correct option is C 1 m/s
Given : m1=3kg m2=5kg u1=2m/s u2=2m/s e=1
Velocities of the objects after collision be v1 and v2.
Using v1=(m1em2)u1+(1+e)m2u2m1+m2

v1=(31×5)2+(1+1)5(2)3+5=3m/s

Also using v2=(m2em1)u2+(1+e)m1u1m1+m2

v2=(51×3)(2)+(1+1)3(2)3+5=+1m/s
Thus speed of the objects after collision is 3m/s and and 1m/s respectively.
