The correct option is B20N towards east Now this diagram clearly depicts that the forces acting are two collinear vectors in opposite directions. Let us take east side as positive and west as negative. So the resultant will be ¯A+¯B i.e., 50 N - 30 N = 20 N (For the resultant of two collinear vectors they are simply added taking into account their directions. If they are in opposite directions then one of the directions has to be taken as positive and other negative) Since it’s a positive number and we took east side as positive, so the net force of 20N is acting towards east.
