Question

Two solid spheres of radii 2 cm and 4 cm are melted and recast into a cone of height 8 cm. Find the radius of the cone (in cm) so formed.

Open in App
Solution

The volume of solid sphere of radius 2 cm=43π×23 [ volume of sphere =43π×r3]
The volume of solid sphere of radius 4 cm=43π×43 [ volume of sphere =43π×r3]
Volume of cone =13π×r2×h
Now, as per the question

Volume of two spheres = Volume of cone
43π(2)3+43π(4)3=13πr2h
32+256=r2×8
2888=r2
36=r2
r=6 cm.
