Two sounds having the same speed in a medium are having wavelengths 1.3 m and 3.9 m. A person listens to these sounds. What difference would the listener feel?
The first sound is heard with a higher pitch.
Since velocity(v) is product of frequency(f) and wavelength(w),
f1 = vw1 = v1.3 = 10v13 = 30v39
f2 = vw2 = v3.9 = 10v39
Now, f1f2 = 30v3910v39 = 3
As f1 is 3 times greater than f2, first sound has higher pitch than the second one. Because higher the frequency higher is the pitch.
