Two supplementary angles are in the ratio 7 : 8. Find the angles.
84∘, 96∘
Let the angles be 7x and 8x
Since the angles are supplementary , we have
7x+8x=180°
15x=180°
x=12
Hence the angles are 7 ( 12) = 84 ° and 8 ( 12) = 96°
Alternate Solution
Let the angles be x∘ and (180−x)∘
Given
x:(180−x)=7:8
⇒x(180−x)=78
⇒8x=7(180−x)
⇒8x=7×180−7x
⇒8x+7x=7×180
⇒15x=7×180
⇒x=7×18015
⇒x=7×12=84
⇒The other angle=(180−x)=180−84=96
∴The angles are 84∘ and 96∘
