Let the number be x.
It is given that two times this number increased by 5 equals 9.
$∴ 2 x + 5 = 9 \Rightarrow 2 x = 9 - 5 \Rightarrow 2 x = 4 \Rightarrow x = 2 [d i v i d i n g b o t h s i d e s b y 2]$
Hence, the required number is 2.
