Question

Two transparent media A & B having refractive indices μA=1.5 and μB=1.2 respectively in an optical fibre are seperated by a plane boundary. The speed of light in medium A is 2×103m/s and in medium B is 2.5×103m/s. The critical angle for which a ray of light going from A to B is totally internally reflected is :-

Solution

The correct option is C
sin1(45)

Applying Snell's law to the interface between the given two media we get,

μAsinθc=μBsinr....(i)

At critical angle, r=90

From (i) we get,

1.5×sinθc=1.2×sin90

sinθc=45θc=sin1(45)

Hence, option (c) is the correct answer.
