Two vertices of a triangle are (3, –5) and (–7, 4). If its centroid is (2, –1). Find the third vertex.
(10, -2)
Let the coordinates of the third vertex be (x, y).
∵ Centroid of a triangle with vertices (x1,y1),(x2,y2) and (x3,y3) is given by (x,y) where;
x = x1+x2+x33 and y = y1+y2+y33
⇒x+3−73 = 2 and y−5+43 = -1
⇒x−4 = 6 and y - 1 = -3
⇒x = 10 and y = -2
Thus the coordinates of the third vertex are (10, -2).
