Two waves each having a frequency of 100 Hz and a wavelength of 2 cm are travelling in the same direction on a string. Both the waves were produced at the same instant but the first one was produced at a distance 4 cm behind the second one. If both waves have an amplitude of 2 mm what would be the amplitude of the resultant wave?

The correct option is C 4 mm

Given both waves have frequency (f) = 100 Hz

Wavelength (d) = 2 cm

Amplitude (A) = 2 mm

Wave (1)

Wave(2)

Wave 1 is produced 4 cm behind which is equal to 2λ

The amplitude of the wave after interference will be 2 + 2 = 4mm

As you can see from the diagram they constructively interfere.
