Question

Two waves of the same pitch have their amplitudes in the ratio of 3:4. What will be the ratio of their frequencies?

Solution

Pitch: It is the characteristic of sound by which we can distinguish between different sounds of the same loudness.

  1. The pitch of a sound depends on the frequency of vibration. It is directly proportional to the frequency.
  2. Change in the amplitude of sound does not affect its frequency.
  3. Thus, if two waves have the same pitch, their frequency is also the same.
  4. Therefore, the frequencies of both waves remain the same.

Hence, the ratio will be 1:1
