The main types of forests found in India are
1. Tropical evergreen forests which are found in areas with heavy rainfall like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala and the North Eastern states.
2. Deciduous forests which are found in most parts of central and northern India. Such forests shed their leaves during the dry season.
3. Temperate forests which are found in the lower Himalayas and Nilgiris.
4. Alpine forests which are found in the upper Himalayas.
