Let the list price of the book be Rs xNumber of books purchased from Rs 1200=1200xWhen the price of books is increased by Rs10, number of books purchased=1200x+10As per the condition:1200x-1200x+10=101200x+10-x=10xx+101200=x2+10xx2+10x-1200=0On splitting the middle termx2+40x-30x-1200=0xx+40-30x+40=0x+40x-30=0x=30, x=-40list price can't be negative, thus original list price=Rs 30
