Question

  • Why is it said that if the forward reaction is exothermic and the temperature is increased, the yield of products is decreased. If the temperature is decreased, the yield of products is increased?

Solution

Already the reaction is exothermic and the increase of temperature will increase the heat energy. Now the stress in the form of heat should be removed from the system so that more yield of product is produced. That is why decrease of temperature in exothermic reaction favours more yield.
