  1. Ultraviolet rays are absorbed by ____________ of atmosphere.

Open in App
Solution

Atmosphere has five main layers, i.e., Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere

Stratosphere:

  • It is the second-most layer in the atmosphere of earth, which reaches up to 50 km from the planet's surface.
  • After 25 km, the temperature drops from -60°C to -15°C. This is called the inversion layer, where the temperature rises with height.
  • The ozone layer is present in this part of the atmosphere at about a height of 25 km.
  • It protects the planet from ultra-violet radiation and its harmful effects by absorbing and scattering the UV rays.

Thus, the ultraviolet rays are absorbed by the Stratosphere of the atmosphere.
