The hydrolysis of dimethyl dichlorosilane produces dimethyl silane diol which on condensation polymerization forms a linear polymer.
The hydrolysis of trimethyl chlorosilane produces trimethyl silanol which cannot undergo polymerization as it contains only one OH group.
