Question

N2(g)+O2(g)+Heat2N(g)O
C(s)+O2(g)CO2(g)+Q
What information do you get from the above equations ? Comment.
Write an activity about how you conduct an experiment to show that more reactive metals replace less reactive metals from their compounds.

Solution

N2(g)+O2(g)+Heat2NO(g)(1)
C(s)+O2(g)+CO2(g)+Q(2)
Now for the 1st reaction heat is absorbed. So it is endothermic reaction. But for the 2nd reaction heat is evolved, so it is exothermic reaction.
2NaOH+CaCl2=2NaCl+Ca(OH)2
Here Sodium is more reactive metal and it replaces calcium from its salt i.e, CaCl2 giving white precipitation of Ca(OH)2. Thus the above reaction is displacement reaction.
