Question

Unpolarised light is passed through a polaroid P1.When this polarised beam passes through another polaroid P2 and if the pass axis of P2 makes angle θ with the pass axis of P1. then write the intensity when θ varies from 0to2π.

Solution

The intensity of light when passed through different Polaroid is,
I1=I02........(i)I2=I02cos2(α)......(ii)I3=(I02cos2(α))cos2(β)..........(iii)
Now,
I02=I02cos2(α) since (I1=I2)
cos2(α)=1or,α=0
Similarly, β=0
