Untreated sewage is discharged into the rivers. How will it affect the population of aquatic animals in the river?
Water table decreases
We know that aquatic animals make use of the dissolved oxygen in the water. When untreated sewage is discharged into rivers it reduces the amount of oxygen dissolved in it. So it will become more difficult for aquatic animals to survive.
This is one of the reasons why over years there has been a huge drop in the number of Ganges dolphins.
