Question

Urea is a very important nitrogenous fertilizer. Its formula is CON2H4. Calculate the percentage of nitrogen in urea.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1:- First calculating the molecular mass of CON2H4.(Urea)

AtomicmassofC(Carbon)=12

AtomicmassofN(Nitrogen)=14

AtomicmassofH(Hydrogen)=1

So, the molecular mass of CON2H4=12+16+28+4

=60

Step 2:- Then ,calculating the percentage of nitrogen in urea

=MassofnitrogeninthecompoundMolecularMass×100

=2860×100=46.67%
