Urochrome, the pigment present in urine develops where and from what?

Open in App
Solution

Urochrome:

  1. Urine has a yellow tint due to the presence of urochrome.
  2. Urochrome is formed through the breakdown of bile pigments in the liver, preceded by the breakdown of hemoglobin.

Development of Urochrome:

  1. Few amounts of it stays in the large intestine and is converted to stercobilin, which gives feces their brown color.
  2. Some of it is reabsorbed into the bloodstream before reaching the kidneys.
  3. Urobilinogen oxidizes to urobilin when exposed to air, giving urine its yellow hue.
