Solution

Use of MetalProperty

Zinc in Galvanization

Aluminium in Thermite welding

  1. Zinc (Zn) is more reactive than iron(Fe) and is resistant to corrosion.
  2. Therefore, it is coated over iron (Fe)by galvanization, to prevent the corrosion of iron(Fe).

  1. Aluminium(Al) is a good reducing agent and it has a high affinity with oxygen(O2).
  2. The reaction is highly exothermic.
  3. In the Thermite process, aluminium (Al)powder is heated with ferric oxide(Fe2O3).
  4. Here, the ferric oxide(Fe2O3) is reduced to iron(Fe) which is in the molten state.
  5. It drops into a broken railway track and joins it.
