Use the formula to expand:

(1) (a + b + 8)2

Open in App
Solution

We know that (a + b + c)2 = a2 + b2 + c2 + 2ab + 2bc + 2ac.
Comparing (a + b + 8)2 with (a + b + c)2 , we get:
a = a, b = b and c = 8
Substituting these in the above formula:
(a + b + 8)2 = a2 + b2 + 82 + 2 × a × b + 2 × b × 8 + 2 × 8 × a
= a2 + b2 + 64 + 2ab + 16 b + 16a
