Using HCF and LCM answer the following question

A rectangular courtyard is 18 m 72 cm long and 13 m 20 cm broad it is to be paved with square tiles of the same size find the least possible number of such tiles?

Convert the dimensions into cm
18 m 72 cm = 1872 cm
13 m 20 cm = 1320 cm
Find the HCF of these two numbers.
You will get it as 24.
So the most side length of the square tiles you can use is 24 cm.
Now find the area of the rectangular yard, = 1872 × 1320 = 2471040 cm^2
And also the area of a single square tile = 24 × 24 = 576 cm^2
Now divide the area of the yard by the area of the tiles to get the number of tiles
2471040÷576 = 4290

Hence 4290 tiles is the least number of square tiles required.
