Coagulation is the process in which there is formation of a network of cells, proteins and factors to form a clot which prevents the loss of blood from the body. Whenever there is any injury, the blood vessels gets damaged and there is flow of blood outside from the vessels. If the blood keeps on flowing, there will weakness due to loss of blood and cause haemorrhage which may result in death. There are platelets in the blood which gets transformed when there is injury. These platelets invites the clotting factors which are various different proteins which initiate a cascade for the formation of clot. The clot is made up of platelets, clotting factors, neutrophils, macrophages and the fibrin strands. The vitamin K and calcium ions are also essential for the activation of certain proteins involved in this mechanism.
