Question

Using the kinetic theory of matter, explain why a gas completely fills any container.

Solution

A gas is made up of molecules that are in a state of constant motion. The attractive force of cohesion between the molecules of a gas is negligible and their kinetic energy is very high. It is because of this reason the molecules are spread very far apart and are free to move in all directions. Therefore, a gas completely fills any container.
