(v) Factor of a number: The number by which the given number can be divided completely.
Prime factors of $12=2\times 2\times 3$
Prime factors of $16=2\times 2\times 2\times 2$
Prime factors of $28=2\times 2\times 7$
$\therefore$ Common prime factors $=2\times 2$
Hence, H.C.F. of 12, 16 and $28=2\times 2=4$
