Solution

Let the given points be A(λ, −10, 3), B(1, −1, 3) and C(3, 5, 3).

AB=i^-j^+3k^-λi^-10j^+3k^=1-λi^+9j^

AC=3i^+5j^+3k^-λi^-10j^+3k^=3-λi^+15j^

If the points A, B, C are collinear, then

AB=kAC for some scalar k

1-λi^+9j^=k3-λi^+15j^1-λ=k3-λ and 9=15k Equating coefficients of i^ and j^1-λ=353-λ5-5λ=9-3λ2λ=-4λ=-2

Thus, the value of λ is −2.
