Try to explain the following observations
When $K^{+}$ ions are removed from the medium surrounding red blood cells, sodium influx into the cells and potassium efflux increase dramatically.

A $N{a}^{+}/K^{+}$ pump operates whereby efflux of $N{a}^{+}$ is linked to influx of $K^{+}$ without Kt no $N{a}^{+}$ efflux can occur so $N{a}^{+}$ accumuulates within the cells by diffusion and $K^{+}$ leaves the cells by diffusion.
