Solution

Suppose , Vanita bought pens worth 'x' rupees.
The amount of the notebooks, she bought is 3x rupees.
The total amount of both pens and notebooks (x+3x) rupees is given Rs.80.
x+3x=80
4x=80
x=804
x=20
She must have bought pens worth Rs.20.
She must have bought notebooks worth Rs.3x=3(20)=Rs.60.
