Question

Variations of acceleration a of a particle executing SHM with displacement x is:

Open in App
Solution

The differential equation for S.H.M is given by d2xdt2+(km)x=0 where d2xdt2=acceleration,x=displacement ,m=mass
and k=force constant.
Also km=ω2 where ω=angular frequency
Reducing the above values in the equation of S.H.M
d2xdt2+ω2x=0
d2xdt2=ω2x
The negative sign implies that the acceleration and displacement are opposite in direction.
