Vascular cambium is the layer that separates xylem and phloem that is the reason it is called vascular cambium. In the young stem it is present in patches while as the plant grow, it activates and show meristematic activity then forms a ring and divide phloem outside it and xylem remains inside and it converts into secondary tissue.
