Velocity of the boat with respect to river (vb/r) is 10 m/s. It passes the river of width 36 m and reaches opposite shore at point R shown in the figure. If the velocity of the river is 3 m/s, find the time of the trip and drift of the boat.

The correct option is A (6 s,66 m)
The given situation can be shown in the figure as below

As per the question, velocity of the boat with respect to river is, Vb=10 m/s
and, velocity of the river is, Vr=3 m/s
Hence, time taken by the boat to cross the river is given by,
t=dVby=36Vb sin37=3610 sin37=366=6 s
Now, for drift BC we have total velocity in the direction of river flow as
Vtotal=Vbx+Vr=Vb cos37+Vr
Vtotal=10 cos37+3=8+3=11 m/s
drift BC=Vtotal×t=11×6=66 m
