Question

Verify the property x×(y+z)=xy+xz for rational numbers by taking x=12, y=34, z=14.

Open in App
Solution

Given, x=12, y=34 and z=14

x×(y+z)=xy+xz is the distributive property of rational numbers.

LHS=x×(y+z)

=12×(34+14)

=(12)×(44)

=(12)×1

=12

RHS=xy+xz=(x×y)+(x×z)

=[(12)×(34)]+[(12)×(14)]

=(38)+(18)

=48

=12

LHS=RHS

x(y+z)=xy+xz

Hence verified.
