What is meant by homologous organs ? Give one example.

Organs though different in functions but of similar embryogenic origin and development and having similar relationships with adjacent organs are known as homologous organs. For instance, thorns of Bougainvillea and tendrils of Passiflora are homologous as both arise in axillary positions and are thus a modification of the branch.
