Solution

Let the numbers of years be x.

For village X, Initial population is 68000

Decrease in one year=1200

Decrease in x years=1200x

For village Y, Initial population is 42000

Increase in one year=800

Increase in x year=800x

When both villages have same population, then

680001200x=42000+800x2000x=26000x=260002000x=13

Therefore, the population of both the villages will be equal in 13years.
