Vishal went to the market with his mother to buy fruits he saw a fruit seller selling green coconuts. His mother purchases 4 coconuts for the family to drink its milk at home. she told vishal that coconut is useful tree and provides livelihood to a large section of people across the country.
Read the above passage and answer the following question:-
(i) What is the morphological nature of coconut milk?
(ii) Which types of reproduction is involved in the formation of coconut milk?

Solution

i) Coconut milk comprises of free nuclear endosperm. It is seen as a watery liquid present in the coconut fruit. subsequently cell wall formation occurs and the endosperm becomes cellular. The coconut water from tender coconut is nothing but free nuclear endosperm and the surrounding white kernel is cellular endosperm.

ii) This coconut milk or endosperm arises from the fusion of male gamete and two polar nuclei which form a triploid endosperm.
