Kolar Gold Field is located in the Kolar District of Karnataka. It is a mining region. Kolar gold field is about 30 kilometres from Kolar and 100 kilometres from Bangalore. There is a ridge of hills of Doda Betta Hill in its east. This town was known for gold mining for over a century. It was the only gold mine in India which had to be closed down. It was eventually closed in 2001 due to low level of gold production.
